I picked up this book because I’ve enjoyed other books about this period in history.
It was a different look at Tudor history because it told the story of Queen Mary I from the point of view of a member of her husband’s Spanish household.
The book follows Rafael and the household’s time in England just after Queen Mary marries Philip of Spain. I enjoyed the history that was included. The fact that the main character was an outsider to Tudor England meant that a lot of the historical information was explained through his experience and didn’t hold up the plot.
It was very readable and Suzannah Dunn writes in a contemporary style, so it’s easy to follow the story without getting bogged down in old fashioned language.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction, particularly people who like reading about Tudor history.
