The Other Bridget by Rachael Johns is a very enjoyable read. I hadn’t read a Rachael John’s book for some time, and while this book is definitely in the romance genre, there is much more to the story, with highs and lows, and lots of fun.
Bridget Jones, named after the fictional character by her book loving mother, completes the literary immersion by following a career in libraries. Worried that she also has inherited the character’s dismal romantic prospects, Bridget has almost given up on love, after being fooled by a married man.
Bridget’s love life takes a turn for the better when her morning encounters with a handsome barista start looking promising, while her repeated clashes with her difficult, but gorgeous neighbour make her rethink her initial impression.
Dramas in the workplace, including wrangling book club members, helping a mother cope with her daughter’s serious illness and a bad-tempered new boss, develop the story beyond a romance. There is a generous sprinkling of humour and some interesting characters that make this a very enjoyable read.
As a confirmed book lover myself, I have to agree with the main character Bridget that anyone who doesn’t love reading just hasn’t found the right book yet.
