Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey

I picked up Jasper Jones after reading many positive reviews and wanting to explore more about Australian history. The story is set in a small Australian town in the 1960s and follows Charlie Bucktin, a young boy who gets caught up in a mystery when he meets Jasper Jones, a troubled outcast, who needs help after finding a dead body.

What I enjoyed most about this book was getting to know the characters, with their different personal struggles. The friendship that develops between Charlie and Jasper shows how the characters mature in their understanding of the world. Craig Silvey’s writing is engaging, mixing humor with deep emotions and detailed scenes which bring the story to life.

I highly recommend Jasper Jones for its gripping plot and memorable characters. It’s a powerful coming-of-age tale that beautifully explores friendship, courage and how Australia has changed, making it a must-read for anyone who enjoys a thoughtful story.
