I picked up this book because I have enjoyed the other books by Liane Moriarty. Every book she has written is a little bit different.
Here One Moment was about a group of passengers on a flight from Hobart to Sydney, where a lady on the plane predicts the age and cause of death of all of the passengers. This book had a lot of different perspectives, and it was interesting to read how different characters responded to the situation. It sounds dark, but her writing is very immersive and pulls you straight into the story, which always seemed to lean towards the positive.
I liked the large cast of characters, who all seemed like someone you would know because she does such a great job of getting into their heads. One of my favourite parts was when a wife and husband are in the middle of an argument about how he is working too much. She says something like ‘You work like a dog’, and he looks at their pet dog, ‘who has never worked a day in his life’. I thought it was a funny moment; it took the edge off the argument, but also made it seem more realistic, and it reminded me of my dogs at home, who have very nice lives. It definitely has Liane Moriarty’s trademark wit.
I also enjoyed how the different strands of the story all came together in the end. The way she wrapped everything up was very satisfying. The idea of the story was very original and not like anything I had ever read before. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Liane Moriarty or Australian writing.
