I found reading Maya’s Dance to be an emotional and terrifying ride.
Based on the real-life account of a Holocaust survivor, the story gripped me as it shifted between 1942 Poland and 1990’s Australia, following Maya’s search for the man who helped her escape.
It was heartbreaking to read the vivid portrayals of the horrors in a Nazi labour camp, yet so inspiring to see the incredible power of hope and the human spirit through Maya’s courage to keep dancing.
To me, this story is a beautiful reminder of the strength we find in art and love, and it serves as a powerful message to us all to never forget.
