I know they say you should never judge a book by its cover, but I can’t lie, this one pulled me in by the cover alone.
Packed with feminine rage, epic tournaments and dragons, Amie Kaufman’s Lady’s Knight is a comedic young adult take on a medieval love story.
Gwen, with her dark and brooding style, has spent years manning her father’s blacksmith behind closed doors. Since, of course, no medieval knight wants to know that a mere girl is responsible for crafting all his finest weaponry.
On the other side of the coin, Isobelle is a princess, terrified of her inevitable fate of an unwanted marriage. The superior knight of the upcoming dragon slayers tournament will be free to claim her as his trophy, and there’s nothing she can do to stop it.
The tournament commences, and it’s safe to say that the champion of the first round is not like all the other men… It’s something about the way he hides behind a mask… Something about the high-level craftmanship of his blades…
If you’re looking for facts and complete historical accuracy, this one might not be for you. But, oddly enough, this is what I found so charming about this book. It’s fun, light-hearted, and easy to follow, and with their modern personalities and senses of humour, the characters are incredibly relatable.
