Author Visit – Scott Whitaker

Temora | Cootamundra | Junee | Culcairn |

Tuesday 5 September – Wednesday 6 September

Author Scott Whitaker has travelled Australia investigating the life of the Railway Hotel.  In the early days, Railway Hotels were quickly established to service the railway construction workers, or navvies. Inevitably, the Railway Hotel was the haunt of the local railway workforce. There was once over 600 Railway Hotels in Australia, but the years have seen that number steadily declined.

In addition to detailing the history of the local Railway Hotel, Scott’s talk will cover the coming of the railway, the social development of regional NSW, research and publishing tips. The talk will be of great interest to local historians, researchers, genealogists and those interested in the past.
